The kitchen is the heart of your home. It’s where family gathers, eats and makes memories. With all the activity that happens in the kitchen, it’s also one of the first rooms in a home to fall into disarray. But no matter how busy and hectic things get, there are a few organization tricks you can use to help make sure you will find what you need when you need it and enjoy your kitchen like it is meant to be enjoyed.

  1. Divide the Kitchen into “Stations.” Particularly helpful for smaller kitchens, this technique is all about designating certain blocks of counter/cabinet/drawer space for certain items and activities like food prep, cooking, baking, and kid friendly stuff. Store seldom used appliances out of sight.
  2. Hang Spray Bottles from a Tension Rod Under the Sink. Conserve that precious under-the-sink storage and install a tension rod across the area so that spray bottles can hang above—leaving plenty of room for the composting pail, pet food, and any other larger home necessities.
  3. Keep Kids and Pets Safe Häfele offers a pull out storage system to keep cleaning supplies locked up that are in the cabinet.
  4. Hang a Clipboard in a Cupboard or the Pantry. Jot down items that you need to purchase as you think of them, and do a quick inventory before you go shopping to help remember everything you need. You may even want to make a list of what you regularly buy as a reminder to check if you have plenty in stock.
  5. Use a Cake Stand to Organize Frequently Used Spices and Oils While Cooking. The height of a cake plate makes it the perfect cooking companion. Set the little things you use most on it and leave room for everything else on the counter below it.
  6. Invest In a Magnetic Knife Strip. Rather than taking up space in a drawer or on the counter, mount a magnetic knife strip on the wall for easy access to the knife you need. Check out a number of interesting strips on Houzz. Caution: Think twice about a knife strip if you have small children.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  James 1:5
